Course Objectives


The course, following the Dublin descriptors, aims to provide the student with knowledge and understanding of the main aspects of human nutrition and to link these to the cultural tradition as evidenced by special population groups (Nonagenarians and Centenarians). The aspects relating to the measurement of metabolism with regard to lifestyles will also be covered.
The course aims to provide independent judgment and communication skills, in a transversal context between Physiology Sociology of Culture and Behavioral Economics, as well as to stimulate the ability to learn the most innovative aspects of the cultural and health evolution of the population.

Online and in-person classes, with courses held at the Physiology laboratory and the BACH Center (Bio-behavioural Arts and Culture for Health, Social Inclusion, and Sustainability)

Contents


The course aims to provide, on the one hand, an in-depth and detailed analysis of human nutritional needs about health status, accompanied by tools to assess the nutritional status suitable for a healthy individual and in function of belonging to a specific population group, basal metabolism, and energy expenditure. On the other hand, the process that can lead to behavioral change will be analyzed to explore how cultural norms, food traditions, health beliefs, social aspects, and awareness campaigns can influence changes in eating habits and lifestyles.
