Course Objectives

The course aims to provide students with conceptual tools for the complex relationship between humanity and the environment by illustrating themes from Earth and Life Sciences, as well as a historical perspective.

The goal is to develop awareness and understanding of the sustainable and environmental development approach, enabling students to critically place these concepts within their respective study paths and to more fully understand their implications for research.

The course will be delivered remotely, including lessons and practical activities.

Assessment Methods

Preparation and discussion of a final report in presentation format, on an interdisciplinary topic agreed upon with the course instructors.

The aim of this course is to provide the fundamental knowledge required to understand the intricate relationships between humans and the environment. Beginning with an analysis of natural systems, it explores the connections between environmental factors and human biological adaptability. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the course integrates geological, biological, and historical-cultural perspectives to offer a holistic view of the processes that shape the relationship between human societies and the environment.
The course is structured in 4 modules of different disciplines:
module I (L. Marinangeli), 1 CFU: Monitoring pollution and climatic changes of the Adriatic Sea using satellite data
module II (T. Piacentini), 2 CFU: The anthropic effect in the definition of the landscape
module III (M.C. Somma), 1 CFU: Historical evolution of the man-territory relationship in the Fucino basin
module IV (G. Aceto), 2 CFU: Relationship between environment and human biology in the development of pathological forms
