Abstract:
This article presents a new interpretation of Aristotle, Poetics 1458b, 9-10. The iambic poet Eucleides the Elder said it was easy to make poetry, if you might lengthen syllables at will. And so he, after making iambic verses (ἰαμβοποιήσας), manipulated the order of the same words and the length of syllables in order to compose ridiculous hexameters.
