Note preliminari sulla ceramica della catacomba di San Vittorino in Amiternum

The research carried out on the San Vittorino catacombs in Amiternum between 2000
and 2004 show uninterrupted use of the site since Late Antiquity. This article examines the
ceramic evidence coming from the 4th to 8th century stratigraphic layers. It attests to the prevalence
of common ware and a significant amount of fine ware too, mostly imported from North Africa
and locally imitated. Moreover, the presence of painted ware and polished ware should also be
reported. Thanks to the data coming from the recent excavations at Amiternum, even for the
inland site of Abruzzo, we can identify a wide-ranging trade network, characterised by specific
local and regional ceramic production between Late Antiquity and the Early Medieval period.
