The ‘Mediterranean’ Natural Garden in William Beckford’s Recollections of an Excursion to the Monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha

Chapter
Publication Date:
2021
abstract:
In Recollections of an Excursion to the Monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha (1835) William Beckford gives an account of his first visit to Portugal (occurred between June 3rd and 14th 1794) and to the two well-known monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha. Although Beckford’s Recollections do not represent a faithful and objective travel report., the material deployed here constitutes a useful means available to reach a direct knowledge of Beckford.
