The reconversion of industrial buildings, that constitutes now in Italy a particularly fertile ground, in which the instances of the restoration are not always accepted, highlighted different methods of approaches in relatively recent times.
The panorama that we have tried to outline shows clearly how the theme of industrial archeology is still unresolved in Italy. We have now to ask ourselves what is the real value that the industrial heritage has for the present -day society. The abandoned building is perceived as a silent partner, unable to speak an ancient language with modern words. For this reason, the comparison between different disciplinary fields must be kept opened, recalling the teaching of Moneo that in front of an existing building invites to the respect of the architectural identity of the building itself, which allows the change and guarantees its life.
