Patrimonio fragile. Terremoti e abbandoni nell’Appenino centrale

Fragile heritage constitutes a historical assessment of an exceptional event, such as the Marsica earthquake of 1915, which dramatically highlighted the structural fragility of a territory, or better to say of a civilization, followed by strategic choices that made such almost irreversible fragility. At the same time, it constitutes a necessary historiographical balance given the large production regarding the theme of the seismic emergency and its prevention, as well a newfound interest in the processes of territorial anthropization. In particular it involves the character of the settlements and, not a secondary aspect, the study of building types in their processuality and in their construction methods.
Finally, Fragile heritage questions the fate of the many Marsica settlements abandoned in a state of ruins, concrete and at times desolating testimony of the many upheavals suffered by this noble Land due to exceptional natural events, to which were added the unremedied wounds of the second World War II, all aggravated by a general phenomenon of depopulation of the Apennines.
