Le smorfie gaie e le smorfie tristi di Roberto Bracco

A distinguishing feature of Bracco's writing lies in a quite clear borderline between the comic means and the care over the drama horizon. This splitting legitimately led to distinguish his literary work in two different fields, respectively the serious and funny ones. Thus we could extend to Bracco's whole work the title of one of his collection of tales, Smorfie gaie e smorfie tristi. Nevertheless, several combinations occur among these two extremes: they are both displayed by the original organization of the short-stories narrative processes and the basic upward climax adopted in drama devising. Bracco's dramas are built according to a spectrum, where both the smiling and thinking tones take a great place between the opposite poles of laughing and weeping.
