The essay examines the various projects followed by the Italian authorities during the occupation of Montenegro in World War II: the initial attempts to recreate a Montenegrin State with the support of independentist or federalist exponents, then, after the outbreak of a resistance movement of extraordinary amplitude, the search for a collaboration with the local chetniks.
