Abstract:
The integration of “Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion” (EDI) values within Design Education is increasingly recognized as essential for enabling the next generation of designers as agents of ethical transformation in society. EDI strengthens design pedagogy by developing inclusive learning environments that are supportive of social responsibility, empathy, and fair access to solutions created. The EDIDesK project addresses the existing gaps in EDI education by developing open access multilingual learning materials to incorporate inclusive design practices at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Early empirical evidence found shows new trends linking EDI principles and the eagerness of students to address complex social problems; however, it is also important to increase the receptivity of teaching staff towards its potential.
