Le applicazioni della realtà virtuale alla psicoterapia cognitivo comportamentale

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2025
abstract:
Virtual Reality (VR) is a technological interface that allows users to experience computer-generated scenarios in a controlled environment, creating a simulated presence in a virtual environment that replaces the physical world. In the mental health sector, numerous interventions integrate VR experiences into cognitivebehavioural therapy protocols (VRCBT), employing techniques such as exposure and systematic desensitization. Although studies in the literature have shown good evidence of VRCBT efficacy, few have focused on VR developments in Italy. The aim of this article is to analyse the VR software currently available in the Italian context, employing VRCBT protocols. Research was conducted by consulting the software of two major Italian companies. Italian VR applications address specific phobias, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and eating disorders. VRCBT application has shown promising efficacy in treating mental disorders, and there are software solutions in Italy employing these therapeutic principles. However, randomized clinical trials are necessary to test the validity of most software available in Italy.
