Alfredo De Massis is Full Professor of Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital and Family Business Management at the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara. He was ranked the #1 most impactful family business professor worldwide in the McCoy College of Business (Texas State University) researcher ranking in 2024, 2025, and 2026, and in December 2024 Family Capital named him, for the third time, among the 25 world’s most influential professors in family enterprise. In October 2025, he received Pescara’s highest civic honor, the “Ciattè d’Oro,” recognizing his outstanding achievements and enduring attachment to the city.
He is a Top 100 Family Business Influencer (Family Capital, 2022) and a Family Business Hall of Fame inductee (Family Business United, 2022). He has founded and/or relaunched three international family business research centers and has been recognized as a leading, highly productive scholar, including being a 2021 Highly Cited Researcher (Clarivate). His research has over 31,450 citations (top 1% of scientists, Stanford University) and has advanced understanding of how family firms balance economic and non-economic goals and manage tradition–innovation paradoxes. He holds major editorial roles (including Editor of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice) and his work has influenced policy and practice through engagement with the European Commission and the UK Government and Parliament.
