GEstioNE del rischio SISmico per la valorizzazione turistica dei centri storici del Mezzogiorno
Project The need to reduce the seismic risk of the huge national cultural heritage has been dramatically highlighted by the recent seismic events that have caused the destruction of entire historical centres, irreplaceable examples of the history and traditions of our country, with clear drawbacks on the economy and tourism, which is one of the most important prerogatives for the development of the Mezzogiorno regions.
The proposed project aims at providing effective support for the safe and conscious use and preservation of the cultural heritage through the diffusion of the knowledge, the substantial improvement in its use, and through the adoption of innovative management forms.
The project intends to develop a web platform, "GENESIS", able to collect information on the historical-cultural heritage. The information will be elaborated at different levels: from the territorial/urban level (historical centre) to the single building level. Such information allows the following specific analyses: on a territorial scale, the simulation of damage scenarios useful for the management of emergency situations; on an urban scale, the planning of interventions to reduce seismic risk; on a single building/monument scale, the development of structural models for the assessment of the static safety and
seismic vulnerability, as well as of possible retrofit interventions that may be required based on the previous analyses. Numerous case studies will be selected taking as reference the historical centres typical of the southern regions (demonstrators); full-scale experimental tests will be carried out, and innovative
products and new methodologies for the protection and conservation of historic and monumental buildings will be developed.
This will provide, at the technical level, support on intervention strategies through cost-benefit analyses that combine the need to reduce seismic risk and to promote conservation, with the need of increasing tourism exploitation. At the tourist level, tourism exploitation will be enhanced thanks to a multilevel access to multiple information (guided courses, thematic studies, direct access to sources, etc.). This will
will boost the attractiveness and competitiveness of tourism and culture in accordance with the objectives of the Strategic Tourism Plan 2017-2022 of MIBACT, promoting new ways of use based on the renewal and expansion of the offer and on the valorisation of new destinations and new products.
