Syllabus

Course Objectives


Perform and formulate a correct diagnostic procedure and clinical semeiotics on real patients prior to implant surgery.

Evaluate and critically interpret blood chemistry and instrumental laboratory tests, contextualizing them to the specific clinical case.
Identify the risk factors and contraindications (both absolute and relative) to implant therapy in patients suffering from systemic pathologies
Plan and apply the correct pharmacological and operational protocols for the safe management of allergic, diabetic, epileptic, thyroid, oncological, and transplant patients, as well as those on antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy or pregnant patients

Teaching Methods


Practical clinical and department activities (guided internship) under tutor supervision.
Chairside discussion and interactive analysis of complex clinical cases focusing on real patients with systemic comorbidities

Assessment Methods


The examination consists of a practical/oral test aimed at verifying the clinical skills acquired on the program topics. Starting from the discussion of a real or simulated case, the student must demonstrate clinical reasoning and practical skills by correctly setting up the semiotic process, requesting and critically interpreting laboratory tests, and planning a safe implant treatment plan

Contents


The internship focuses on the practical and clinical application of the diagnostic and therapeutic assessment of the patient candidate for implant therapy, with a specific focus on the 'medically compromised' patient or those in special physiological conditions. Students will apply in a clinical setting the protocols of medical and odontostomatological semeiotics, the critical interpretation of laboratory tests, and the management strategies for major systemic diseases (diabetes, coagulopathies, epilepsy, thyroid dysfunctions, oncological diseases, immunosuppression/transplant status) as well as pregnant patients
