Syllabus

Course Objectives


This course contributes to the educational objectives of the Master’s Degree Program in Philology, Linguistics, and Literary Traditions. It aims to consolidate and deepen the philological knowledge and methodologies acquired by students during their undergraduate studies, preparing them for potential employment in publishing houses, public and private research and cultural institutes, and cultural or academic foundations, as well as for entry into doctoral programs. Knowledge: By the end of the course, students will be able to critically analyze French and Provençal texts within the context of their manuscript traditions. Independent judgment: Students will acquire the skills necessary to evaluate a medieval text from both a literary perspective and in terms of its manuscript tradition. Communication skills: Students will be able to clearly explain philological contexts and issues using appropriate terminology to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, thereby fostering productive interdisciplinary synergies with scholars from other fields of study.

Course Prerequisites


At least 6 Romance Philology ECTS acquired during the undergraduate degree course.

Teaching Methods


The course is organized in seminars. Students will work in groups and present research related to the course contents to the class.

Assessment Methods

The final assessment consists of an oral exam on the entire syllabus. The aim is to assess students’ skills and in particular, an understanding of the issues discussed during the course, an appropriate knowledge of the bibliography in the course programme, a correct command of the specific language as well as critical and methodological abilities will be evaluated. The grading scale goes from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.
