Contents

A scientifically based awareness of an increasing loss of quality
of the global environment, natural and artificial, has determined, starting
since the late seventies, a decisive turning point in the culture of building
of our time.
The project, understood as an act through which man intervenes on
own living space to adapt it to your needs, takes
awareness of the effects that, at all intervention scales, it produces on a
physical-environmental context that is not only its direct surroundings but
the ecosystem of which it is part. It acquires a new dimension, never before
first, which shifts the objective from immediate benefit to an idea of
long-term well-being.
It is therefore the project's task to prefigure the desired event but also
the scenario of what follows from it, so that it does not cause damage
unwanted for the entire time of its duration as well as at the end of the
its life cycle. The design capability becomes the control capability in
terms of feasibility of a multi-variable process, ranging from phase
conceived to that of total disposal, with the objective of
pursuit of a quality of living that is placed in a relationship of
maximum congruence with the phenomenology of the global environment in his
continuous becoming. By feasibility, not just the technical one
but also that which verifies the ability to relate with the reasons for
nature in its biotic and abiotic components.
From this perspective, Environmental Design is the discipline that explores
possibilities and modalities of interaction of the multiplicity of factors
natural and artificial, material and intangible, of the built environment
according to compatibility and sustainability criteria, for the purposes of the habitability of the
space of use.
