Syllabus

Course Objectives

The main purpose of the course is the formation of a complete vision about the project and of works of restoration. Special attention is paid to the knowledge of the traditional masonry building construction. Equal attention will be paid to the innovative techniques used in the preservation of architectural heritage, trying to stimulate a not only formal approach to restoration issues. These goals will be shared with companies and public institutions operating in the restoration and heritage preservation.

Course Prerequisites

The course is a synthesis and a deepening of the contents presented in the courses of Restauro 1 and Restauro 2 and is expressly dedicated to students who face a degree dissertation in Restoration ICAR/19.

Teaching Methods

The course is developed through classes and visits to relevant construction sites, monuments or historical towns. The comparison with the actuality will also be stimulated through participation at conferences and seminars. The evaluation will be carried out through discussions about the reports prepared by the students: the topics will be decided with the thesis supervisors and useful for the accomplishment of the final work.

Assessment Methods

The exam is oral and conducted on the basis of the material produced during the course, based on the chosen thesis topic and the research carried out.
