Syllabus
Course Objectives
The internship, in compliance with the provisions of the Teaching Regulations, Article No. 3 "Specific training objectives and expected skills," aims to provide, under the supervision of a clinical tutor, knowledge of preventive and care interventions designed to address priority health problems in critical and emergency settings, in mental health, in outpatient and community settings, in the acute phase of the disease and as educational and psychosocial support in the chronic phase.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- identifies behavioral measures to prevent occupational risks for the safety of oneself and others;
- identifies the health and nursing care needs of individuals, families, and the community, prioritizing those, and formulates related care plans;
- recognizes critical clinical situations requiring immediate intervention;
- plans the main interventions related to clinical/care conditions, knowing how to formulate Nursing Diagnoses and identify collaborative problems, evaluating the outcome;
- promotes effective educational relationships aimed at disease prevention and the maintenance and recovery of satisfactory health;
- develops the skills necessary for effective teamwork both within and outside the hospital.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- applies the principles necessary to protect their own and others' safety (staff and patients);
- adopts occupational risk prevention strategies;
- ensures correct and effective procedures in application and compliance with the fundamental scientific principles of the profession and adapts services to the patient, in relation to different pathologies/clinical conditions, different care settings, and different age groups;
- plans and delivers nursing care in collaboration with patients and the multidisciplinary team;
- initiates and maintains care relationships aimed at health and therapeutic education with the patient and their family, adopting effective communication, modulating language according to the interlocutors' level of understanding;
- plans, intervenes, and evaluates the care provided to the patient in critical life situations;
- plans, intervenes, and evaluates the care provided aimed at maintaining respiratory and cardiocirculatory function in emergency/urgent situations;
- plans, intervenes, and evaluates the care provided to individuals experiencing decompensation and compensation, at various levels and stages of psychiatric and neurological conditions;
- plans, intervenes, and evaluates the care provided in compliance with guidelines, protocols, and procedures based on the best available scientific evidence;
- activates and involves the patient's social and emotional network in the care plan, including through therapeutic education and rehabilitation programs, to develop self-care skills and problem management;
- plans, intervenes, and evaluates the care provided to chronically ill, frail, and disabled patients in the community;
- documents the nursing care planned, delivered, and evaluated under the supervision of the clinical tutor.
MAKING JUDGMENTS
- chooses occupational risk prevention strategies to protect their own safety and that of others;
- identifies the care priorities of their patients;
- assumes responsibility for their own actions and the care outcomes achieved;
- seeks ongoing dialogue with the clinical tutor in new and/or more complex situations;
- reports to the tutor errors or near-errors that may have consequences for the patient's health;
- demonstrates behavior consistent with the guidelines set forth in the Teaching Regulations and the rules of professional ethics and ethics.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- initiates and manages the supportive relationship with the client, their family, and significant others.
- ensures effective communication through the use of verbal and nonverbal cues, facilitating understanding and expression of emotions.
- supports the client and caregiver in self-managing chronic and degenerative problems;
- interacts with other professionals involved in the care process, respecting their areas of responsibility and expertise, and using unambiguous and technical language;
LEARNING ABILITY
- Critically reflects on their learning expectations based on clinical practice models and debriefings with the tutor;
- Critically reflects on the care/clinical situations experienced during the internship;
- Seeks supervision and feedback from the clinical tutor in clinical learning contexts;
- Reflects on the learning process and identifies their own needs for acquiring the expected skills;
- Actively contributes to their own learning by offering complementary learning experiences and activities;
- Develops independent study skills in analyzing care cases.
Course Prerequisites
Completion of the third-year professional internship requires completion of the internship hours required for the second year of the course.
Teaching Methods
Clinical internship in the UU.OO., services, territorial facilities and at home, as required by the training plan, with the supervision of the clinical tutor.
Assessment Methods
Students who have completed 100% of the required internship hours in the third year of the course and have received positive evaluations in the units, services, and facilities they attended are admitted to the internship exam, subject to the prerequisites set out in the Course Regulations.
The assessment of learning is based on the discussion of a clinical case, with the aid of a mannequin to simulate relevant procedures. The exam is graded out of 30; a score of 18/30 or higher is considered a pass. When determining the order in which students are examined, the specific needs of working students will be taken into account. A failing grade is not awarded. The following indicators and descriptors will be taken into account for the evaluation: INDICATORS: relevance and correctness DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30, In-depth: 29 - 27, Fair although with some gaps: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient with evident deficiencies: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: breadth and coherence DESCRIPTORS: Rigorous and documented, highlighting the ability to use the knowledge acquired and connect it in the argumentation: 30, Precise and detailed: 29 - 27, Adequate: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: Expressive correctness, command of scientific language, communication ability DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30, Clear, fluent and correct: 29 - 27, Fair: 26 - 24, Sufficient: 23 - 21, Not fully adequate: 20 - 18. To achieve a score of 30/30 with honors, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all aspects related to the case, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.

The professional internship for third-year students is designed to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired in the previous two years of the program and to enable them to apply the individualized, evidence-based care process, including in the specialized fields of critical/emergency care and mental health, and in outpatient and community settings, under the supervision of a clinical tutor.
