Course Objectives


The module, in compliance with the provisions of the Teaching Regulations, Article No. 3 "Specific training objectives and expected skills", provides students with the tools necessary to identify the nursing care needs of the individual, their family, and the community in the context of home and community care, developing the most suitable PDTA and care plans to support the person's residual capacities and promote adaptation to the limitations and alterations produced by the disease. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES: Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the module the student will be able to acquire sociological understanding tools of the nurse's functions and activities: from disease prevention/health promotion to patient care, from the patient's behavior to the problems that the treatment of the disease entails in a holistic perspective that includes family, caregiver, community and care system; understand the concept of Family/Community Nursing and its areas of intervention and organizational models. Applying knowledge and understanding: at the end of the module, the student: identifies the most suitable care process, starting from the assessment of patients' needs and vulnerabilities, for the construction of an individual care plan; manages nursing care for chronic and disabled patients present in the area; takes action, in collaboration with other professionals, for the discharge of the patient in the area, explaining to the user and the family the institutions present in the area and their usefulness; develops educational projects with the person and the family to develop self-care skills and problem management. Making Judgements: The student will be able to make healthcare decisions based on a careful identification of needs, critically evaluating the outcomes of the choices made; Furthermore, he/she will be able to contribute to the essential aspects of nursing relevance for a multidisciplinary assessment from the perspective of Family/Community Nursing and apply the knowledge acquired regarding case management. Communication skills: the student will be able to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team and with users, modulating his/her language based on the interlocutor's understanding skills. Learning skills: He/she will be able to research information independently and in collaboration, for the resolution of problems inherent to clinical practice, drawing information from the best scientific evidence available, through the critical selection of primary and secondary sources.

Course Prerequisites


Understanding the discipline requires sufficient knowledge of: anatomy and physiology, respiratory and cardiovascular pathophysiology, medical and general pathology, aseptic procedures and CDC guidelines on handwashing, risk management regulations, and basic nursing care knowledge. To be eligible for the exam, students must have attended 70% of the lectures for the Integrated Course in Community and Prevention Nursing Sciences and must have taken and passed all exams in the first semester of the third year of the program, as required by the study plan.

Teaching Methods


The module, which is mandatory, consists of lectures. The instructor will adopt a teaching style based on the presentation of problems that prefigure professional life situations, thus stimulating student interest in the course topics and encouraging the application of knowledge in real-life clinical settings.

Assessment Methods


Assessment is based on an oral exam. Grades are out of 30; the exam is considered passed if the score is equal to or higher than eighteen thirtieths (18/30). When determining the order in which students are examined, particular consideration will be given to the specific needs of working students. A failing grade is not accompanied by a grade. Exam results are publicized. For the evaluation of the oral interview, the following indicators and descriptors will be taken into account: INDICATORS: relevance and correctness DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30, In-depth: 29 - 27, Fair although with some gaps: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Barely sufficient with evident deficiencies: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: breadth and coherence DESCRIPTORS: Rigorous and documented, highlighting the ability to use the knowledge acquired and connect it in the argumentation: 30, Precise and detailed: 29 - 27, Adequate: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Barely sufficient: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: Expressive correctness, ownership of scientific language, communication skills DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30, Clear, fluent, and correct: 29-27, Fair: 26-24, Sufficient: 23-21, Not fully adequate: 20-18.
To pass the exam, a grade of at least 18/30 is required. To achieve a score of 30/30 with honors, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all the topics covered in the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.
