Course Objectives


The module, in compliance with the provisions of the Teaching Regulations in article no. 3 "Specific training objectives and expected skills", provides the student with the tools necessary to develop the assumption of ethically responsible behavior through the recognition of the values ​​that guide the nursing profession and the ethical problems related to care; develop analytical and ethical reasoning skills for decision making. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES (LEARNING OUTCOMES): Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the module the student knows and understands the legal, bioethical and deontological principles that characterize the autonomy and professional responsibility of the nurse; possesses the knowledge to develop critical capacity with respect to the main bioethical issues of the nursing profession and basic skills for the rational management of ethical problems encountered in concrete situations of clinical practice Ability to apply knowledge and understanding (Applying knowledge and understanding): at the end of the module, the student knows how to implement ethical and deontologically correct behaviors, also in relation to the aspects of humanization of care and the rules that regulate nursing practice; promotes the protection of human rights in a multicultural perspective in compliance with the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of each individual as a human being. Autonomy of judgment (Making Judgements): The student will be able to decide, plan and implement, in response to the care needs of the individual or the community, effective, safe interventions, consistent with scientific evidence and with legal and ethical responsibilities, using the appropriate tools; use critical thinking to understand the phenomena that characterize the care reality and ethical and bioethical reflection. Communication skills: the student will be able to adapt communication according to the context and respecting the cultural, ethnic and value differences of the people assisted; interact positively with the members of the team and participate proactively in decision-making and work processes Learning skills: the student will be able to evaluate their own training needs and implement effective learning and self-learning strategies and methods; integrate and enrich their knowledge and skills through sharing information and reflections within the work team

Course Prerequisites


Understanding the discipline requires sufficient knowledge of the Code of Ethics; to be able to access the exam, the student must have attended 70% of the lectures of the Integrated Course of Community and Prevention Nursing Sciences and must have taken and passed all the exams of the first semester of the 3rd year of the course, as foreseen by the study plan

Teaching Methods


The module, which is mandatory to attend, includes frontal lessons. The teacher will adopt a teaching style based on the presentation of problems prefiguring situations of professional life, such as to stimulate the interest of the students for the topics of the course and encourage the application of knowledge in real clinical contexts

Assessment Methods


The learning assessment is based on an oral exam. The evaluation is in thirtieths, the exam is passed if the evaluation is equal to or greater than eighteen thirtieths (18/30). In determining the order in which students must be examined, the specific needs of working students will be taken into particular account. The evaluation of insufficiency is not accompanied by a grade. The publicity of the exam tests is ensured. For the evaluation of the oral interview, the following indicators and descriptors will be taken into account: INDICATORS: relevance and correctness DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30, In-depth: 29 - 27, Fair although with some gaps: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient with evident deficiencies: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: breadth and coherence DESCRIPTORS: Rigorous and documented, highlighting the ability to use the knowledge acquired and connect it in the argument: 30, Precise and detailed: 29 - 27, Adequate: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: Expressive correctness, use of scientific language, communication skills DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30, Clear, fluent and correct: 29 -27, Fair: 26 - 24, Sufficient: 23 - 21, Not fully adequate: 20 -18. To pass the exam, a grade of at least 18/30 is required. To obtain a grade of 30/30 with honors, the student must demonstrate that he or she has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.

Contents


Definition of the general concepts of Ethics, Bioethics and Morality. Ethical issues related to the beginning of life (abortion and medically assisted procreation); conscientious objection and conscience clause; issues related to the end of life (ethics of accompaniment, hospice and palliative care, euthanasia and therapeutic obstinacy); ethical issues related to restraint, pharmacological experimentation, multi-ethnic assistance, organ donation and transplantation; advance directives for treatment.
