Course Objectives


"The module, in compliance with the provisions of the Teaching Regulations in article no. 3 "Specific training objectives and expected skills", provides the student with the necessary tools to develop the adoption of ethically responsible behaviors through the recognition of the values ​​that guide the nursing profession and the ethical problems related to care; develop analytical and ethical reasoning skills for decision-making. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES: Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the module the student knows and understands the legal, bioethical and deontological principles that characterize the autonomy and professional responsibility of the nurse; possesses the knowledge to develop critical capacity with respect to the main bioethical issues of the nursing profession and basic skills for the rational management of ethical problems encountered in concrete situations of clinical practice. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: at the end of the module, the student is able to implement ethical and deontologically correct behaviors, also in relation to the aspects of humanization of the care and the rules that regulate nursing practice; promotes the protection of human rights from a multicultural perspective, respecting the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of each individual as a human being. Making Judgements: The student will be able to decide, plan, and implement, in response to the healthcare needs of individuals or communities, effective, safe interventions consistent with scientific evidence and legal and ethical responsibilities, using appropriate tools; use critical thinking to understand the phenomena that characterize the healthcare reality and ethical and bioethical reflection. Communication skills: The student will be able to adapt communication according to the context and respecting the cultural, ethnic, and value differences of the people being cared for; interact positively with team members and participate proactively in decision-making and work processes. Learning skills: The student will be able to assess their own training needs and implement effective learning and self-learning strategies and methods; integrate and enrich their own knowledge and skills through the sharing of information and reflections within the work team

Course Prerequisites


Understanding the discipline requires sufficient knowledge of the Code of Ethics; to be eligible for the exam, the student must have attended 70% of the lectures of the Integrated Course in Community and Prevention Nursing Sciences and must have taken and passed all the exams of the first semester of the third year of the course, as required by the study plan.

Teaching Methods


The module, which is mandatory, consists of lectures. The instructor will adopt a teaching style based on the presentation of problems that prefigure professional life situations, thus stimulating student interest in the course topics and encouraging the application of knowledge in real-life clinical settings.

Assessment Methods


Assessment is based on an oral exam. Grades are out of 30; the exam is considered passed if the score is equal to or higher than eighteen thirtieths (18/30). When determining the order in which students are examined, particular consideration will be given to the specific needs of working students. A failing grade is not accompanied by a grade. Exam results are publicized. For the evaluation of the oral interview, the following indicators and descriptors will be taken into account: INDICATORS: relevance and correctness DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30, In-depth: 29 - 27, Fair although with some gaps: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient with evident deficiencies: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: breadth and coherence DESCRIPTORS: Rigorous and documented, highlighting the ability to use the knowledge acquired and connect it in the argumentation: 30, Precise and detailed: 29 - 27, Adequate: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: Expressive correctness, command of scientific language, communication ability DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30, Clear, fluent and correct: 29 - 27, Fair: 26 - 24. Sufficient: 23-21. Not fully adequate: 20-18. To pass the exam, a grade of at least 18/30 is required. To achieve a score of 30/30 with honors, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all the topics covered in the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent manner.

Contents


Definition of general concepts of ethics, bioethics, and morality. Ethical issues related to the beginning of life (abortion and medically assisted procreation); conscientious objection and the conscience clause; issues related to the end of life (ethics of accompaniment, hospice and palliative care, euthanasia and therapeutic obstinacy); ethical issues related to restraint, pharmacological experimentation, multiethnic care, organ donation and transplantation; advance directives for treatment.
