Course Objectives

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The course is inserted within the specific objectives of the study program aimed at training a professional figure able to: i) activate the necessary interventions to manage acute and / or critical situations and in particular, to guarantee safe administration of the therapy and to monitor its efficacy and adverse events; ii) integrate nursing care into the multidisciplinary care project; iii) work in an integrated way in the team respecting the areas of competence.
Therefore, in short, the course aims to allow the student to develop knowledge on the main drugs used in emergencies and in critical care useful to acquire the competence related to their use. In particular, the knowledge of the mechanism of action, of the main undesirable therapeutic and side effects, of the indications and contraindications, of the precautions and of the mode of administration of each single molecule that allows a correct and safe use of drugs in emergency.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course the student, as far as his / her competence is concerned, will be able to: i) know the pharmacological bases of therapy in emergency medicine contexts and in critical care; ii) to know the collateral and toxic effects of the drugs and the potential interactions between them in emergency medicine contexts and in critical areas.
The course will help to provide the student with tools that will allow him to improve: i) his competence in the management of drug therapy in emergency; ii) his ability to relate with other professional figures (doctors, psychologists, dietitians, etc.) who, in an increasingly multidisciplinary approach, will be called to take care of the patient.
The student will also be able to provide explanations to the patient and / or his family about the benefits and risks of drug therapy. Finally, he will continue to acquire skills for an independent study and will strengthen those methodological tools functional to an autonomous update.

Course Prerequisites

The student must have basic knowledge of biology, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, general and special pharmacology (acquired during the second year of the study program).

Teaching Methods

The teaching is divided into lectures whose purpose is to transmit concepts, information and schemes.

Assessment Methods

EVALUATION METHOD

Type of exam:
oral

The level of learning related to the Pharmacology in emergency and critical care module takes place as an oral examination aimed at evaluating the knowledge (in terms of principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics) on drugs commonly used in emergency and critical care.
During the oral examination the mastery of an adequate terminology and the logical / argumentative ability are also evaluated. If the teacher is not able to be present a test of 15 multiple choice questions (only one right) will be administered to the students.
The final grade is calculated as a weighted average credit on the individual modules that make up the integrated course.
The examination procedure and its evaluation are indicated by the teacher at the beginning of the lessons.

Evaluation:
Rating in thirtieths
