Course Objectives

The course, in compliance with the provisions of the Teaching Regulations, Article No. 3 "Specific Learning Objectives and Expected Skills," contributes to: recognizing and describing the nursing care needs of individuals in critical life situations and managing the main nursing interventions aimed at maintaining respiratory and cardiocirculatory function in emergency/urgent situations. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES: Knowledge and understanding: The student understands the methods and tools for managing nursing care, from data collection to evaluation of actions and outcomes, for individuals presenting with biophysiological, physiopathological, psychological, and sociocultural manifestations and signs related to critical life situations. Recognizes, immediately after the event, emergency clinical situations that require first aid interventions to ensure survival and adequate and effective nursing care. Acquires the knowledge needed to manage clinical emergencies and is able to develop specific care plans in highly complex care situations in the emergency room and intensive care unit; knows the main intervention methods in catastrophe situations; Applying knowledge and understanding: The student responds to nursing care needs, competently implementing significant interventions for the person in critical life conditions; intervenes promptly in emergency/urgent clinical situations that require first aid, implementing the general principles of nursing triage. Making judgments: The student will be able to make care decisions based on a careful identification of needs, critically evaluating the outcomes of the choices made. Communication skills: The student must demonstrate that he or she has acquired adequate scientific terminology and is able to clearly and comprehensively explain his or her knowledge and care choices to members of the care team. He or she must be able to communicate with the child and his or her family, adapting his or her language based on their understanding. The student develops the ability to maintain communication and interpersonal relationships with patients and family members in critical life contexts and situations. Learning skills: The student will be able to research information independently and collaboratively to resolve issues related to clinical practice, drawing on the best available scientific evidence through the critical selection of primary and secondary sources.

Course Prerequisites

Comprehending the module requires in-depth knowledge of the nursing process and care planning, as well as biomedical sciences related to the physiological processes associated with a person's health and illness. To sit for the exam, students must have attended 70% of the lectures for the Integrated Course in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing and must have passed all second-year exams, as required by the study plan.

Teaching Methods

The module, which is mandatory, consists of lectures. The instructor will adopt a teaching style based on the presentation of problems that prefigure professional life situations, thus stimulating student interest in the course topics and encouraging the application of knowledge in real-life clinical settings.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is based on an oral and/or written exam. Grades are out of 30; the exam is considered passed if the score is equal to or higher than eighteen thirtieths (18/30). When determining the order in which students are examined, the specific needs of working students will be taken into account. A failing grade is not accompanied by a grade. Exam results are publicized. For the evaluation of the oral interview, the following indicators and descriptors will be taken into account: INDICATORS: relevance and correctness DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30, In-depth: 29 - 27, Fair although with some gaps: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient with evident deficiencies: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: breadth and coherence DESCRIPTORS: Rigorous and documented, highlighting the ability to use the knowledge acquired and connect it in the argumentation: 30, Precise and detailed: 29 - 27, Adequate: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: Expressive correctness, command of scientific language, communication ability DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30, Clear, fluent and correct: 29 - 27, Fair: 26 - 24.
