Course Objectives

Instruction in Istituzioni di teatro antico contributes, by means of the study of Greek and Roman ancient theatre, of which an exemplary case is investigated, with the strict philological method in the analysis of classical texts to the the wider task of the course of study in Lettere: the approaching of students to the theoretical basis and methodological instruments, elements in the analysis of texts. The expected learning outcomes are: • knowledge of the theatrical phenomenon in the ancient world (origins, forms and historical development) and its most up-to-date analysis tools • ability to connect knowledge to the analysis of the ancient theatrical text • acquisition of independent judgment, which also enables to suggest interventions on the critical structure of the text • communication skills of the contents through the specificities of the sector language

Course Prerequisites

For students in Linguaggi della musica e dello spettacolo course: there are no prerequisites and the different programme is to be requested directly from the teacher.

Teaching Methods

The course consists in 42 hours of lecturing including various forms of formative and summative assessment.

Assessment Methods

The final assessment consists in one oral examination in which students will demonstrate their acquistion of the class content and the ability to analyze an ancient text. The grade scale goes from 1 to 30 cum laude: 1-17 insufficient, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 cum laude excellent.
