Syllabus

Course Objectives


This course contributes to the learning outcomes for the degree course in Literature, providing extensive knowledge of contemporary television and digital media, with a particular focus on TV series.

Knowledge

Once the course is completed, students will have acquired a solid knowledge of the main methods used in the analysis of contemporary television and its relationship to media digitali, particularly as concerns TV serial narratives. Students will be aware of the most important moments in the history of television, which they will able to discuss from a economic, social and technological perspective.

Critical thinking

Students will be able to use the tools they have acquired to offer stylistic analyses of contemporary TV series and to place them within the appropriate historical framework.

Communication skills

Students will be able to discuss the key elements of contemporary television and its relation with digital media, showing its ability to use the appropriate technical vocabulary to analyse TV serial narratives.

Learning skills

The knowledge acquired during the course will allow students to develop their learning skills, which can be applied in further education in the field of humanities.

Teaching Methods


This course (taught lessons) is 63 hours long.


Assessment Methods


The final assessment consists of an oral exam on the entire syllabus. The aim is to assess students’ skills and in particular, an understanding of the issues discussed during the course, an appropriate knowledge of the bibliography in the course programme, critical and methodological abilities and communication skills will be evaluated. The grading scale goes from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.
