Syllabus

Course Objectives


This teaching contributes to the learning outcomes for the degree course in Literature, providing an extensive knowledge of film history and historiography.
Knowledge
Once the course is completed, students will have acquired a solid knowledge of the main methods used in film analysis, as well as of the most important moments in the film history, of the concept of formal innovation and of the economic, social and technological aspects of film culture.
Critical thinking
Students will be able to use the tools they have acquired to offer stylistic analyses of films and to place them within the appropriate historical framework.
Communication skills
Students will be able to discuss the core moments in the film history and historiography, and to use the appropriate technical vocabulary to analyse films.
Learning skills
The knowledge acquired during the course will allow students to develop their learning skills, which can be applied in further education in the field of humanities, as well as in the field of film production.

Teaching Methods


This teaching (taught lessons) is 72 hours long.

Assessment Methods


The final assessment consists of an oral exam on the entire syllabus. The aim is to assess students’ skills and in particular, an understanding of the issues discussed during the course, an appropriate knowledge of the bibliography in the course programme, critical and methodological abilities and communication skills will be evaluated. The grading scale goes from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.
