Syllabus

Course Objectives

At the end of the course the student:
• knows how to define which situation is urgent;
• knows how to apply the theoretical principles to make a dressing;
• knows how to carry out the various types of bandage;
• knows how to treat bleeding, the various types of fractures;
• can detect vital parameters;
• knows how to use the assessment scales for pain and time-dependent pathologies;
• can perform intramuscular and subcutaneous injections;
• knows how to identify the various sites of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.

Course Prerequisites

It is necessary that the student have passed all the exams of the first semester of the third year.

ELEMENTS OF FIRST AID What to do and what not to do?. Urgency vs emergency. Aid goals. Classification of emergencies. The triangle of life. Legal considerations in rescue: civil liability art. 2034 CC, criminal liability. Some crimes in rescue. Pollution of evidence during rescue.
ORTHOPEDIC EMERGENCIES Outline of anatomy and physiology. Limb fractures: classification and treatment. Stop a bleeding. Dressing. Particular fractures, signs and symptoms, first aid and classification. Immobilization of the limbs with makeshift means. Joint injuries, signs and symptoms, first aid and classification.
VITAL PARAMETERS AND SCORE Vital Vestments. What are? Body temperature. Heart rate. Blood pressure. Breath frequency. Score. Ache. Score for time dependent pathologies.
OUTLINE OF INTRAMUSCULAR AND SUBCUTANEOUS THERAPY Intramuscular injections. Subcutaneous injection.
