Overview

Date/time interval

Secondo Semestre (23/02/2026 - 22/05/2026)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

The Laboratory training course aims to provide the student with:
• the main methodological-applicative references about mobility planning with a focus on the relationship between academic and urban mobility;
• the ability to read and interpret the case study with a focus on its morphological, environmental and economical aspects;
• the ability to develop an operational proposal for a cycle path by evaluating its physical-morphological and sustainability aspects;
• the ability to qualify a integrated process of planning and design aimes to the re-organization of the mobility networks within the contxt of intervention; • The ability to select the most appropriate methods to address complex problems.

Course Prerequisites

none

Teaching Methods

The Laboratory of Susainable Mobility will be held by Professors Matteo di Venosa and Luciana Mastrolonardo who will develop the didactic program and exercises.
The Laboratory provides for a collaborative learning way of work including meetings and application activities.
The frontal lessons will mainly concern the ways of reading, interpreting and planning sustainable mobility with particular reference to the cycle network and its interaction with the territory at different scales.
The meetings aim to introduce the student to the innovative aspects of the main mobility planning experiences in Italy and abroad through the voice of the key players (administrators, planners, scholars, etc.) of the experiments.
The application activity coincides with a design exercise relating to the planning of mobility between University and city in the context of Pescara and Chieti. The meetings will cover topics and methods and will involve
- Local stakeholders and administrators
- Lecturers and experts from other disciplines (system design, gaming, theory of change, behavioural economics)

Assessment Methods

The final exam concerns on the verification of application activity.

Texts

During the exercise students will be given examples and reference texts

Contents

The Laboratory of Sustainable Mobility will explore the results and the basic knowledge acquired during the Course of Sustainable Mobility held in the first semester by the prof. Matteo di Venosa.
The topic of the Laboratory coincides with a applicative experience of integrated design (Icar 21-Icar 12) that assumes the system of urban and metropolitan mobility as a value of sustainability of the relationship between university and city.
With reference to the of Pescara-Chieti metropolitan area, the theme has its own specificity and relevance
The University G. d'Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara is a polycentric territorial system that is poorly interconnected with the metropolitan public transport networks of the Pescara Valley and the Mid-Adriatic coast.
Moreover, in the space between two University Campuses of Pescara and Chieti there isn’t integrated mobility offer able to promote better accessibility to the two higher education poles and, consequently, their stronger functional and spatial interrelation. The inefficiency of transport interconnections affects the quality of the relationship between the University and the territory and, more generally, the competitiveness of the Chieti-Pescara University system. The theme of metropolitan and urban mobility interconnected with the respective university poles of Pescara-Chieti requires a tran-scalar and multidisciplinary approach. The key word is “integration” of the public politicies: mobility and trasportation, energy, environmental, research and technological innovation.
The integrated Laboratory (proff. Matteo di Venosa Icar 21- Luciana Mastrolonardo Icar 12) will identify strategies and design scenarios that qualify the relationship between university and each urban contexts.
The general objective is to plan the mobility networks in a sustainable and intermodal key, to improve the quality of public space associated with mobility networks, to reduce the vulnerability factors of urban contexts

Course Language

More information

The Laboratory takes place in the second semester.
In order to be able to constantly follow the students' learning, the following are planned: individual and collective reviews to be carried out in the classroom; exercises and research to be carried out in the classroom and at home.
