Syllabus

Course Objectives

The training course aims to provide the student with:
• the knowledge of sector legislation and the main methodological-applicative references about mobility planning;
• the ability to read and interpret the main planning tools and, in particular, the Urban Plan for Sustainable Mobility;
• the ability to develop an operational proposal applied to the case study.

Course Prerequisites

Teaching Methods

The course includes lectures, meetings and application activities.
The frontal lessons will mainly concern the ways of reading, interpreting and planning sustainable mobility with particular reference to the cycle network and its interaction with the territory at different scales.
The meetings aim to introduce the student to the innovative aspects of the main mobility planning experiences in Italy and abroad through the voice of the key players (administrators, planners, scholars, etc.) of the experiments.
The application activity coincides with a design exercise relating to the integrated network of cycle mobility conceived as an environmental infrastructure for the mitigation of the vulnerability of the urban context chosen as a case study (Pescara)

Assessment Methods

The exam concerns an individual interview based on:
• knowledge of frontal lessons;
• verification of application activity.

Contents

Content
The Sustainable Mobility course aims to explore the concept of sustainability applied to mobility systems using to an integrated and multimodal approach. The overall objective is the quality of the public space and the reduction of the vulnerability factors in urban and territorial contexts.
Based on this methodological-operational approach, the course will explore tools and methods for planning mobility considering the centrality of the theme of the relationship between university and city in Pescara and Chieti.
Specifically, the course aims to frame the sustainable mobility as an environmental infrastructure capable of contributing to the improvement of the ecological and urban performance of a particular territorial context.
Case study
In the space between two University Campuses of Pescara and Chieti there isn’t integrated mobility offer able to promote better accessibility to the two higher education poles and, consequently, their stronger functional and spatial interrelation. The inefficiency of transport interconnections affects the quality of the relationship between the University and the territory and, more generally, the competitiveness of the Chieti-Pescara University system. The theme of metropolitan mobility interconnected with the university poles requires a tran-scalar and multidisciplinary approach. The key word is “integration” of the public politicies: mobility and trasportation, energy, environmental, research and technological innovation.
These topics will be the fosus of design experimentation led within the course and developed, during the second semester of teaching, with the Laboratory of sustainable mobility
