Course Objectives

Know the anatomy and physiology of the upper digestive airways, the physiopathology of sleep apnea and the complications of the disease. Know how to read polysomnographic tracings, the tests to be performed for the OSAS evaluation and the speech therapy technique to improve the lingual muscles. Cerebrovascular and cardiovascular risks related to the disease. Relationship with the ENT and the dentist. When to collaborate with the pulmonologist

Course Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites outside those provided for in the study plan. Non prerequisites are required but supplementary readings may be recommended from time to time which will also allow students who have not previously acquired disciplinary knowledge to achieve the stated objectives

Teaching Methods

Frontal lessons and practical exercises during the lessons. Voluntary practical exercises in a clinical setting. Interactive methods will be used to involve students and stimulate clinical reflection. The interactive mode requires constant participation by the students in the lessons

Assessment Methods

Oral examination. The evaluation will be based on the following parameters: knowledge of the basic notions of the swallowing mechanism (until 8 points); ability to organize knowledge discursively Until 8 points; capacity for critical reasoning on the study carried out (until 8 points); quality of exposure in relation to competence effectiveness and lexical linearity and to the properties of language (until 8 points) The constant attendance at the lessons guarantees a result in terms of score higher than the lack of constant attendance
