LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The teaching of Clinical Pathology contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the Course of School of Dental Medicine (PROFESSIONAL PROFILE OF THE EDUCATIONAL REGULATION:



Art. 3 Specific training objectives and expected skills
The courses in odontostomatological disciplines (which address the topics of prevention, oral pathology, restorative dentistry, oral surgery, gnathology, periodontology, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and prosthetics), while each covering different disciplinary areas, pursue the common goal of developing knowledge, skills, and competencies to address and resolve oral health problems from a preventative, diagnostic, prognostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative perspective, while also complying with the medical, legal, and ethical standards in force in European Union countries”.









EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

Knowledge and understanding
-Know the fundamental principles of clinical pathology as applied to dental practice.
-Understand the pathophysiological significance of the main laboratory tests (hematological, biochemical, immunological, and microbiological).
-Know the laboratory alterations associated with the main systemic diseases of dental interest (inflammatory, infectious, metabolic, autoimmune, and neoplastic diseases).
Applying knowledge and understanding
-Accurately interpret laboratory reports in the dental clinical context.
-Correlate laboratory data with the patient's general clinical and oral health.
-Evaluate the impact of systemic conditions and pharmacological therapies on dental procedures.

Making judgements
- Identify clinical situations that require further diagnostic investigations or referral to a specialist.
- Assess the dental patient's biological and clinical risk based on laboratory parameters.
- Contribute to the clinical decision-making process in a critical and responsible manner.
Communications skills
- Communicate appropriately with other healthcare professionals using correct clinical and laboratory language.
- Explain to the patient the general meaning of laboratory tests and their relevance to dental treatment.

-Independently update their knowledge in the field of clinical pathology applied to dentistry.
