Course Objectives

This module of the laboratory medicine course aims at providing the student with a vision of the molecular mechanisms underlying development and progression of pathology in the oral cavity, with particular attention at the carcinogenesis of this anatomic site.
Specific emphasis will be given on the scientific approaches at the basis of the latest discoveries in this field, through in-depth, dedicated analysis of key research papers published on the most important international journals.

Teaching Methods

Traditional lessons, integrated with “journal club” sessions for discussion of the most important scientific papers in this field.

Assessment Methods

Oral examination
Verification of learning by interview with at least 3 questions concerning the course topics.
Each answer will be evaluated using a score from 1 to 10, and the sum of the scores will determine the overall vote

This module of the laboratory medicine course aims at providing the student with a knowledge of the molecular mechanisms underlying development and progression of pathology in the oral cavity, with particular attention at the carcinogenesis of this anatomic site.
Specific notions will be provided about the technologies employed for classification and cytology/histology-based diagnosis. Additional notions will be provided, from the experimental clinical trial currently ongoing, to innovative therapeutic strategies under investigation in vitro as well as in pre-clinical models.
