Course Objectives

Learning Objectives

The teaching of literature, included among the core subjects of the degree Course and necessary to pursue a teaching career, shares the main learning objectives of the MA programme in Philology, Linguistics, and Literary Traditions inasmuch as it enables students to apply the following skills to teaching literature in schools: consolidation of literary-critical, linguistic and philological skills; direct knowledge of some of the most significant works of the literary tradition; positive exploitation of the fundamental unity of the themes running through western culture from classical antiquity to the contemporary world; interdisciplinary comparison with other art forms such as the visual and performing arts, in particular music and cinema.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On completion of the course students must demonstrate:

1. knowledge of the debate on the purpose of teaching literature and the ability to reflect on the social and ethical responsibilities of the teacher’s work;
2. mastery of the chosen subjects (literary texts) consistently with a variety of critical approaches;
3. knowledge of and ability to critically evaluate the tools, techniques and strategies of teaching;
4. ability to devise effective teaching projects;
5. ability to communicate clearly and unambiguously with students belonging to different school levels and g

Prerequisites.
Knowledge of Italian literature (history and texts).

Teaching Methods.

Classroom lessons, exercises, seminars, projects, lectures, group work, flipped classroom.

Assessment Methods


Learning Assessment Method.Oral exam consisting of the presentation of a teaching project.The aim is to assess the students’ skills and in particular an understanding of the issues discussed during the course; their ability to plan and organize their teaching autonomously; an appropriate knowledge of the bibliography in the course programme; a correct command of the specific language as well as of critical and methodological abilities. The grading scale ranges from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.

PART 1: Purpose of teaching literature. From literary theory to the teaching of literature. Authors' canon. From histories of Italian Literature to school textbooks. Legislative foundations of the current education system. How to plan teaching units. PART 2: Borders and frontiers between intercultural literature, convergence and interdisciplinarity. Digital projects for the study and teaching of Italian literature. Consolidation of topics selected for possible teaching units. PART 3: Shared construction of teaching proposals.
