Syllabus

Course Objectives

Providing the theoretical basis for an exploration and exploitation that will enable the humanist scholar to make the most of digital resources and tools that are currently available, encouraging the acquisition of specific professional skills and developing critical awareness in the daily use of digital resources.

Course Prerequisites

Basic IT skills. No previous courses or exams are required.

Teaching Methods

Lectures with the aid of computer and multimedia/internet resources. Some lectures will have a hands-on approach; there will also be an off-site visit for a more in-depth field study of the course content, and external speakers may be invited for specific classes and seminars.

Assessment Methods

An oral exam will ascertain knowledge and understanding of the topics presented in the classes and covered by the textbooks indicated for preparation. The test is intended to verify the knowledge and critical ability to elaborate the theoretical-practical contents of the discipline. The final assessment will also take into consideration the clarity and coherence of the exposition and the level of mastery in the use of technical language.

Exams take place in the professor’s room, first floor, third aisle, in DiLASS building.

Contents

The course will provide a theoretical reference framework on the topics of digital humanities. Based on the historical and conceptual link between computer science and the humanities, digital resources and methodologies for work and research in several fields and of different types will be presented, to foster discussion on their issues and perspectives.
