Course Objectives


MODULE 1.Relations between primary sources and problems in the historical research.
Basic knowledge of medieval history. Themes and matters developed, as well as expertise and abilities, are fundamental parts of the characterizing contents of the degree course.

MODULE 2.
Historiographical methods: environmental History.

Course Prerequisites


No prerequisites.

Teaching Methods


The course will be held in presence, but methods and activities may change according to the limitations imposed by the ongoing health crisis or any other reasons. Online teaching is ensured for the entire academic year in cases provided for by law. Students with disabilities and / or with Learning disability are invited to contact the professor, in agreement with the competent Office.

Assessment Methods


Knowledge and abilities will be verified through a question/answer oral exam. The competence will be judged appropriate (with a vote based on a 30 points scale) if the student:- will show to have clearly learnt the fundamental frames of medieval history;- will show explaining ability and conscious use of the suitable lexicon;- will demonstrate knowledge and ability to use the tools for historical research. The grading scale ranges from 1 to 30 with honors (cum laude):1-17 fail18-21 sufficient22-24 fair25-27 good28-29 very good30-30 with honors (cum laude) excellent.
Intermediate Tests on the topics covered may be agreed.
Examination methods for students with disabilities and / or with Learning disability must be agreed with the teacher, in agreement with the competent Office.

Students, especially non-attendings, are invited to contact the professor to plan their study program: mario.marrocchi@unich.itClasses start on 25 February 2026. the first 6 CFU module (also to be followed by 9 CFU students) will finish roughly between 10 and 15 April when the 3 CFU module will start, with classes ending in early May. Although not mandatory, students are warmly invited to attend the classes.Related exams:Medieval and Renaissance Latin PhilologyLatin palaeography.International or incoming Erasmus students are invited to promptly contact the teacher in charge of the course to agree on the exam program, possibly in English.
