Course Objectives

The aim of the Course is to develop the students’ theoretical knowledge of the fundamental concepts of Dynamic Psychology, its epistemological framework, its scopes and relations with the clinic of mental disorders.
Also, it promotes the understanding of the main vulnerability apparatuses including conflict, trauma, emotions and consciousness.
The main aspects of psychoanalysis will be addressed in light of its most prominent representatives.

Teaching Methods

Classroom-taught lessons with detailed documentation of case studies from the Teacher’s own clinical practice and from the classics of Dynamic Psychology.

Assessment Methods

Multiple choice test (30 questions) (1 point of each right answer)
Test duration: 20 minutes.

Texts

1) G. Stanghellini, M. Rossi Monti: Psicologia del patologico. Una prospettiva fenomenologico‐dinamica (Cortina, Milano, 2009).
2) Lecturer-provided handouts.

The main topics are:

- What is Dynamic Psychology and what is it about? The psychological genesis of self-representations, intrapsychic processes and interpersonal relationships.
- The main theories of dynamic psychology: from psychoanalysis to phenomenology.
- The contribution of dynamic psychology to the study of psychopathology.
- The devices of vulnerability: conflict, trauma, emotions and consciousness.
- The relationship between consciousness and the unconscious and the methods of exploring consciousness and the unconscious.
