Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (29/09/2025 - 20/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, students should have acquired knowledge and understanding of the fundamental characteristics of theoretical approaches to the study of adolescence and the main developmental tasks characteristic of this developmental stage; developed skills in the use of observation and psychodiagnostic assessment tools during developmental age; and developed the ability to integrate theoretical knowledge and clinical data to develop diagnostic and intervention hypotheses.

Course Prerequisites

Previous knowledge related to developmental psychology

Teaching Methods

The lessons will be participatory and interactive, and will be organized using the following methods:
Explanations supported by PowerPoint slides and video examples;
Presentation and discussion of case studies related to the topics covered;
Individual exercises and group work;
Examples using materials drawn from various fields (literature, cinema).
In addition, seminars will be offered, including those with external instructors or industry experts, aimed at exploring specific topics or case studies in greater depth.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of two parts: an oral exam and a written report. The oral exam will be conducted through an interview with the instructor on a date established by the academic secretary. It will assess the student's ability to develop the topics of the questions in a timely and comprehensive manner, using appropriate technical language, while also demonstrating critical thinking and integrating their knowledge. During the oral exam, learning from the practical exercises will also be assessed, and the student will have the opportunity to discuss the content of the written report. The written report will be completed independently by the student at home and will involve administering to one or more teenagers the codification of the tools presented in the practical part, with unambiguous commentary and analysis of the findings. The written report must be submitted to the instructor at least one week before the oral exam. The final grade will be out of 30 and calculated as follows: 80% oral exam; 20% written report. (Oral exam grade x 80 plus written report grade x 20)/100.

Contents

This course contributes to the educational objectives of the Psychology program by providing students with the theoretical and applied foundations of adolescent psychology.
The course presents the main theoretical orientations regarding adolescent psychological development. It describes in detail the main developmental tasks of adolescence, the main changes in teenage identity, and the major transformations during adolescence (biological, cognitive, emotional, and social) and their influence on personal identity. It illustrates the main aspects of adolescents' life contexts, including family, peers, and school. It also outlines some of the key differences between "typical" adolescence and critical developmental processes (e.g., "social deviance") that can lead to psychopathology. Finally, it presents and describes some observation and assessment tools useful in clinical settings with adolescents.
