Course Objectives

The course aims to achieve the educational goal of the curriculum in psychology by providing the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills needed for the study of emotions and personality from a cognitive, neuropsychological, and biological theoretical perspective. The course will help the students to familiarize with the psychological tools and the research methodology adopted in the study of emotions and personality.

The student is expected to show to have achieved the following goals:

- Knowledge and understanding of cognitive, neuropsychological, and biological theories of personality and emotions.
- Knowledge and understanding of how environmental and social factors contribute to the formation of personality.
- Knowledge and understanding of personality disorders based on the criteria used by the DSM-V.

- Ability to connect and integrate different areas of knowledge.
- Ability to communicate acquired knowledge clearly and using disciplinary terminology.

Course Prerequisites

The proposed program will allow students who have not previously acquired disciplinary knowledge to achieve the indicated educational objectives. There are therefore no prerequisites, but supplementary readings may be recommended.

Teaching Methods

Lectures 64 hours. 2-3 hours twice a week. Hands-on seminars. Work groups and discussions will be strongly encouraged. Attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended.

Assessment Methods

The exam consists of a colloquium, aimed at verifying learning, conceptual mastery, language properties and the ability to interpret and analyze cognitive deficits. The duration of the exam is about 20 min.
The exam will be evaluated with a score between 0 and 30 (with possible honors). The grade from 18 to 23 indicates sufficient learning, the grade from 23 to 28 a good level of learning, the grade from 28 to 30 an excellent level of learning, the grade "with honors" indicates particular skills of analysis and critical reasoning of the Course topics. The teacher, if deemed appropriate, may agree with the students to conduct midterm assessments.
