Course Objectives

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
This course is an essential part of the degree course objective to provide students with adequate knowledge regarding the mediation of the language in question. The training objective of the discipline is to acquire active and passive oral skills between Italian and Serbo-Croatian (B/C/M/S); terminological enrichment; study of the vocabulary of some specialized sectors; to favour the acquisition and consolidation of knowledge through exercises of selective non-linear listening, memorisation of semantic units, articulated synthesis and logical-contextual formulation of various types of texts in the field of oral linguistic communication.
To provide students with the cultural and technical background that will allow them to act as mediators and translators in different fields, in line with the various professional profiles, in multicultural contexts, in business and commercial activities, in the world of tourism: the acquisition of secure oral and written language and technical skills supported by an adequate metalinguistic framework; perfection of skills in oral translation and direct personal interaction.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Knowledge and understanding: ability to understand even lengthy speeches
and conferences and to follow even complex arguments; the possession of skills in oral translation of topics of various kinds (specialist or generalist).
Self-assessment: capacity to carry out analyses and identify linguistic and dialectal differences; link the various linguistic, sociolinguistic, historical and cultural aspects.
Communication skills:
Oral interaction: Direct personal interaction; ability to communicate with a degree of spontaneity and fluency sufficient to interact normally with native speakers; capacity for clear and articulated self-expression and consolidated skill in, translating a wide range of topics.

Course Prerequisites

Students enrolled in the Serbo-Croatian Language Mediation I Course must have the A1 and A2 language skills acquired in the previous year (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Teaching Methods

The course is divided into 6 ECTS corresponding to 36 hours of activity carried out annually.
The method of delivery consists of classroom lessons during which the topics of the program will be dealt with and translation exercises in which some of the topics covered in the program will be further clarified.
Seminars will be held on linguistic, translation, sociolinguistic, cultural and historical issues relating to the Serbo-Croatian (B/C/M/S) language.

Assessment Methods

The learning assessment modality will effectively verify the achievement of the learning objectives and the expected learning outcomes. The assessment will consist of an oral test covering the subjects dealt with in the course. The questions in the test will be based on all of the materials listed in the programme and will measure the extent to which students have learned to reflect on the various issues involved in literary analysis. The oral test will also evaluate the students’ ability in simultaneous oral translation , mediation and communication skills.
30 is the highest vote and 18 is passing.
