Course Objectives


EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVESProviding theoretical, qualitative and quantitative tools for the comprehension of the labour market;Developing the knowledge to interpret the role of labour market institutions;Providing basic knowledge for reading and understanding scientific papers focusing on labour economics issues;Applying qualitative and quantitative methodologies for the analysis of the labour market.EXPECTED LEARNING RESULTS:The student will have to be able:-To understand the mechanism regulating the functioning of a competitive labour market;-To identify causes of labour market failures and evaluate the role of public policies and their effects;-To develop basic empirical analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, of the labour market;KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDINGAt the end of the course, the student will have:- Assimilated fundamental concepts of mechanisms regulating the labour market;- Acquired instruments for the analysis of labour policies;- Developed abilities in carrying out analysis related to the labour market;- Developed abilities for the comprehension of scientific papers focusing on labour economics.

Course Prerequisites


Knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics, basic knowledge of econometric analysisPropaedeutics and constraints are not provided for

Teaching Methods


Frontal classes on theoretical analysis of the labour market and exercises. Applied lessons providing for the use of a software to develop empirical analysis of the labour market. Assignments.

Assessment Methods


The exam consists in a written exam focusing on the topics presented in the course and included in the study plan. During the course, it can be carried out written tests, the results of will be considered by the teacher in the final evaluation. The written exam provides for the performance of theoretical questions and exercises. The sum of points associated to each question and exercise is 30. The final evaluation is expressed in thirtieths. The exam is passed if the student reaches an evaluation of at least 18/30.NOTEErasmus students have the possibility of taking the examination in English language
