Course Objectives

Expected Learning Outcomes. 1. Knowledge and Understanding: Students will acquire both theoretical and practical foundations to understand how markets function—under perfect competition as well as in the presence of market imperfections. They will learn to grasp firm and consumer behavior, the role of the State in the economy, and key concepts related to business strategy, growth, and pricing. 2. Applying Knowledge and Understanding: Students will learn to apply economic models to real-world business and market scenarios. They will be able to critically analyze business strategies, pricing mechanisms, and public interventions. Knowledge will be applied through practical examples, class discussions, and assessed via written exams and participatory activities. 3. Independent Judgement: Students will develop the ability to critically recognize and evaluate key economic relationships, interpreting the interactions among firms, consumers, and institutions. They will acquire tools to analyze economic data related to competition, profits, and costs. Group work and classroom discussion will foster critical thinking and independent judgement. 4. Communication Skills: Students will be able to clearly and accurately explain economic concepts and business case studies using appropriate technical language, graphical representations, and basic quantitative tools. Communication skills will be developed through exercises, case discussions, and assessed via exams and classroom presentations. 5. Teaching Methods

The course consists of 48 hours of teaching, including lectures, case study discussions, and project presentations. The program may also include guest lectures and seminars by industry professionals (such as corporate managers, management consultants, and entrepreneurs), as well as workshops and group work. Attendance is optional but recommended. The final exam will be the same for both attending and non-attending students.

Assessment Methods

Knowledge and Understanding. Students’ understanding of the concepts and tools covered in class will be monitored throughout the course through written tests and the presentation and discussion of case studies. Learning assessment is conducted via a written exam and/or a final oral interview. The written exam includes three open-ended questions (graded on a scale from 0 to 30) and is considered passed with a minimum score of 18/30. The oral interview (three questions) is intended to assess the student’s ability to critically analyze the course content. Applying Knowledge and Understanding. During the exam, written tests, and case study discussions, students’ ability to apply acquired knowledge is assessed. The aim is to verify their capacity to interpret and understand current and complex issues in a structured and comprehensive way, and to develop business and economic strategies with a strong focus on the international dimension.
