Overview

Date/time interval

Primo Semestre (22/09/2025 - 21/12/2025)

Syllabus

Course Objectives

D1 - Knowledge and Ability to Understand

The student, upon completion of the course, will be expected to know and correctly apply the concepts about materials for dentistry that describe and justify their functional properties, and how these are related to their microstructure and/or chemical composition. He/she should also be able to understand and interpret the technical specifications of a material for dental use (mechanical, chemical, functional properties in general)

D2 - Ability to apply knowledge and understanding

The student should be able to apply the knowledge acquired by rationally evaluating the mechanical properties of various materials (or families of materials) and demonstrating an understanding of the chemical and microstructural basis of these behaviors (e.g., explaining why a Zirconia crown should not be applied to an implant that does not have another Zirconia crown in opposition)

D3 - Autonomy of judgment

The student should be able to evaluate, opting among various possibilities, the choice of the most suitable material for the production of a device/prosthesis for dental use

D4 - Communication skills

The student should be able, with language property, to describe the mechanical and/or structural properties of the various materials covered, and to effectively communicate the physical and chemical fundamentals underlying said mechanical/structural properties.

D5 - Learning skills.

The student should be able to interpret and employ technical manuals to make specific component or application selections, and to acquire in a reasoned manner information on innovative materials related to the topics studied.
