Syllabus

Course Objectives

The Architectural Design (Small
Building) course aims to provide students with an experience of the
convergence of compositional and urban disciplines
within a simple design theme.
The course program is structured with
the educational objective of studying
Architectural Design integrated with the application of
construction techniques within a small
design experience.

Course Prerequisites

The Architectural Design course is presented
as a simple design exercise but
integrated into the second-year curriculum.
Therefore,
knowledge of the basic disciplines, technical disciplines, and the science of
representation are considered essential prerequisites for
enrollment in the course.

Teaching Methods

rappresentazioni.

Assessment Methods

Mandatory progressive assessments are scheduled
according to the deadlines set by the teaching
activities (and coinciding with thematic
workshops). Students are required to submit
the required assignments by the scheduled dates.
The mandatory progressive assessments constitute
a guarantee for continuing activity within the
seminars and for obtaining the attendance certificate
that entitles them to take the exam within the timeframes set
in the course syllabus. The final exam is
intended as the last educational assignment offered by the
Course to the
student. Exams will be held according to the
schedule.

Contents

The second-year Architectural Design course
is aimed at studying and understanding
simple compositional techniques for the
design of small-scale architectural structures.
The course is divided into two phases. The first
phase analyzes the urban context and
the second phase develops design hypotheses. The urban context and the architectural space,
both in the reading phase,
in the interpretation phase, and in the more specific
design reinterpretation phase, are
broken down into their essential components. These
components will be examined not only in their physical
dimensions and spatial organization,
but also in their material, technical, and
constructive consistency, attempting to
highlight the often very evident relationship between
forms, materials, and technologies. The project, therefore,
is configured as a sort of final equilibrium
in which the size of the individual
construction elements and the dimensions of the spaces they
enclose are integrated within a design strategy
capable of satisfying the requirements of the assigned architectural-functional
program.

More information

The course lasts one semester. Lectures,
exercises, and reviews will be held
exclusively according to the 2025/2026 academic year. Exams
are scheduled according to the calendar,
beyond which,
no additional teaching activities will be offered. Students are permitted to take
the exam individually, identifying
design strategies developed in groups.
