Course Objectives

The Design for All course aims to complete the student's training with notions and tools useful for addressing the complex theme of the “for All” product-system project, intended as a mix of products, services and communicative artefacts. The training will therefore be perfected and integrated by the skills acquired in the teaching modules of Digital and Interaction Design and of Cultural and Relationship Anthropology.
In particular, through design experimentation on a specific application area, the student must be able to:
- promote and facilitate system innovation, through the proposal of a mix of products, services and communication artefacts for All, based on network structures and evolutionary models on a local basis;
- orient or reorient the System design process towards inclusive solutions in relation to the different socio-economic and territorial contexts.

Course Prerequisites

Design for All teaching is an integrated module in the Final Synthesis Laboratory in System design for inclusion. Therefore, the prerequisites indicated for the aforementioned Laboratory are applied

Teaching Methods

The Design for All course is organized in:
- Ex cathedra lessons
- Individual exercises with ongoing assessments
- Collective reviews and one-to-one meetings
- Meetings with local stakeholders.

Assessment Methods

Type of exam: oral
Learning assessment procedures: the integrated teaching module of Design for All provides for ongoing assessments. The ongoing assessments obtained by the student in the teaching module contribute to the determination of the final and unique assessment of the laboratory exam. The exam consists in the presentation of the project results and in the critical discussion of the overall results of the design experience and of the innovative system-product solutions developed, as a synthesis of the knowledge acquired in the teaching modules of the Laboratory.

Contents

The Design for All course is the characterizing teaching module of the Final Synthesis Laboratory in System design for inclusion. The course is delivered in an integrated form with the modules of Digital and Interaction Design and of Cultural and Relationship Anthropology.
Specifically, the course addresses the study of the methods and tools of System Design for inclusion, starting from the interaction and user experience, also through co-design sessions with local stakeholders to record the contextual instances and translate them in planning strategies, aimed at favoring the provision of inclusive services.
The application activity is completed with the presentation and discussion of good practices and meetings with personalities and designers of Design for All. The student will be asked to develop the innovative project of a system-product "for All", through the identification of a specific demand expressed by the social, economic and cultural contexts of the reference territories.
