Course Objectives


Students can understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in Medical and Dentistry English. They can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. They can produce clear, detailed texts on medical English topics, with particular reference to English for Dentistry (CEFR).

Course Prerequisites


Level B1-B2 (CEFR) of English required.

Teaching Methods


The course will last 36 hours. Interactive activities are implemented during the lessons. Students will be engaged in class presentations. If Health Laws and University regulations allow, teaching activities, teachers office hours’, and exams may take place online (in whole or in part). For any further information and updates, please refer to the University website.

Assessment Methods


To pass the exam, students will have to take a written test at the end of the course and an oral exam assessing their competence in English for Dentistry. Contents


The students’ knowledge of English will be developed according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR, level B2), with specific reference to the areas of Medical and Dentistry English. The different levels of language and the knowledge of medical/dentistry vocabulary will be introduced through the analysis of the different branches of Dentistry.

Office hours are on Wednesday from 11.00 to 13.00. Students are recommended to ask for an appointment by e-mail. The teacher will also be available to see students at different hours to the official ones. If Health Laws and University regulations allow, the teacher may see students online.
