Syllabus

Course Objectives

Students will be able tounderstand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. They can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. They can produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options (CEFR).

Course Prerequisites

Level B1 (CEFR) of English required.

Teaching Methods

The course will last 30 hours. Interactive activities are implemented during the lessons. Students will be engaged in exercises, readings, listening, and watching videos.

In the remaining 10 hours of the course reading English conversational skills will be developed and consolidated via reading comprehension, oral comprehension and vocabulary acquisition exercises.

Assessment Methods

To achieve proficiency, students will need to pass a written test assessing their competence in the four language skills. The students’ knowledge of the course contents, their critical thinking skills, and their ability to communicate in English will be assessed.

Conversational skills will be asessed orally and will be based on materials used in class.

Contents

In the first 30 hours the course focuses on the strengthening of the four language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing - at the level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference.
