Course Objectives


The module, in compliance with the provisions of the Teaching Regulations in article no. 3 "Specific training objectives and expected skills", provides the student with the tools necessary to identify the nursing care needs, in the pediatric field, of the individual, his family and the community, from which to develop the most suitable care plans, paying particular attention to the planning, management and evaluation of preventive, curative and rehabilitative interventions. EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES: Knowledge and understanding: At the end of the module the student will be able to understand the relational, communicative, regulatory-organizational and nursing-care aspects, relating to the pediatric area, with particular attention to the care process and the nursing plan, resulting from the available evidence. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: Identify the peculiarities and needs of pediatric nursing care in the different phases of developmental subjects; apply effective strategies to promote the well-being of hospitalized newborns/children/adolescents, using methods for Humanize care; Recognize typical pediatric health problems; Implement the pediatric triage process, using tools for early recognition of clinical deterioration and its management in children; Use tools for detecting acute and chronic pain, specific to pediatric age, and pain management methods; Administer pharmacological therapy to newborns and children, ensuring safety standards; Making Judgements: The student will be able to make healthcare decisions based on a careful identification of needs, critically evaluating the outcomes of the choices made. Communication Skills: The student must demonstrate that he or she has acquired adequate scientific terminology and is able to clearly and comprehensively argue his or her knowledge and healthcare choices to members of the healthcare team. He or she must be able to communicate with the child and his or her family, adapting his or her language to their understanding. Learning skills: You will be able to research information independently and collaboratively, for the resolution of issues related to clinical practice by drawing information from the best available scientific evidence, through the critical selection of primary and secondary sources

Course Prerequisites


Comprehending the module requires in-depth knowledge of the nursing process and care planning, as well as biomedical sciences related to the physiological processes associated with health and illness. To sit for the exam, students must have attended 70% of the lectures for the Integrated Course in Nursing Sciences in Gynecology and Maternal-Child Care and must have passed all exams in the second year, first semester, as required by the study plan.

The module, whose attendance is mandatory, involves lectures. Assessment Methods


Earning assessment is based on an oral exam. The grade is out of 30; the exam is passed if the grade is equal to or higher than eighteen thirtieths (18/30). When determining the order in which students are to be examined, the specific needs of working students will be taken into account. A grade for failing students is not accompanied by a grade. The exam tests will be made public. The following indicators and descriptors will be taken into account in the evaluation of the oral exam: INDICATORS: relevance and correctness DESCRIPTORS: Complete: 30, In-depth: 29 - 27, Fair with some gaps: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Just sufficient with evident deficiencies: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: breadth and coherence DESCRIPTORS: Rigorous and documented, highlighting the ability to use the knowledge acquired and connect it in the argument: 30, Precise and detailed: 29 - 27, Adequate: 26 - 24, Fully sufficient: 23 - 21, Barely sufficient: 20 - 18 INDICATORS: Expressive correctness, command of scientific language, communication ability DESCRIPTORS: Refined and original: 30, Clear, fluent and correct: 29 - 27, Fair: 26 - 24, Sufficient: 23 - 21, Not fully adequate: 20 - 18. To pass the exam, a grade of no less than 18/30 must be achieved. To achieve a score of 30/30 with honors, the student must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.
