Course Objectives


The course aims to develop in students a systemic understanding of healthcare organizations and the dynamics of human resource management.
It contributes to the formation of professionals who are able to:
• understand the principles of organizational management and business administration as applied to public and private healthcare contexts;
• interpret their professional role within complex organizational systems, fostering collaboration, quality, and innovation;
• enhance human resources by promoting organizational well-being and staff motivation;
• use relational and soft skills to effectively manage multiprofessional teams, improve internal communication, and align behaviors with quality and performance objectives in healthcare.

Teaching Methods


The course makes use of interactive lectures aimed at providing the fundamental theoretical concepts of organizational management and healthcare administration, while simultaneously encouraging active participation and discussion among students.
Through guided discussion of real cases, students are invited to apply the models learned to the analysis of concrete professional situations, developing the ability to interpret organizational problems and propose effective solutions.
Group work allow students to experience team dynamics, practice decision-making, and enhance their communication and relational skills, which are essential for managing multiprofessional teams in healthcare settings.
Finally, the reading and analysis of scientific articles aim to foster critical thinking, independent judgment, and continuous updating on innovative organizational models and practices.

Assessment Methods


Learning will be assessed through a written examination designed to verify the student’s knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply the principles of organizational management and human resource management to the healthcare context.
The written exam consists of:
• Multiple-choice questions, aimed at assessing theoretical knowledge, understanding of organizational models, and key concepts of healthcare management;
• One open-ended question, aimed at evaluating critical analysis skills, the ability to connect theory and practice, and the capacity to provide autonomous reasoning based on real or simulated situations in healthcare settings.
The final grade will be expressed on a scale of thirty points (out of 30).
The exam is considered passed with a minimum score of 18/30.​​​​​​​

Contents


The course explores the main principles and models of organizational theory, with particular focus on their application within the healthcare system. It examines concepts such as structure, processes, organizational culture and climate, as well as the role of management and nursing leadership in human resource management.
A significant part of the course is devoted to the development of relational and managerial competencies (soft skills) — communication, leadership, collaboration, conflict management, and problem solving — which are essential for effective teamwork and the quality of care processes.
The course also addresses topics related to motivation, work engagement, and organizational change, drawing on real cases and best practices from the Italian healthcare context.
