Course Objectives


The course contributes to achieving the educational objectives of the Degree Program in Dietetics by training professionals capable of applying preventive medicine strategies to major human diseases.EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Knowledge and UnderstandingBy the end of the course, the student will be expected to:


Understand the fundamental concepts of epidemiology and the prevention of infectious diseases.

Know food preservation methods, as well as the epidemiology and prevention of major foodborne illnesses.

Applying Knowledge and UnderstandingBy the end of the course, the student will be expected to:


Be able to design and carry out nutritional surveillance activities, including targeted collection of epidemiological data on food consumption.

Apply hygiene standards to prevent foodborne illnesses.

Plan and participate in the implementation of nutritional education programs.

Autonomy of JudgmentBy the end of the course, the student will be expected to:


Be able to assess and interpret experimental data.

Course Prerequisites


The student is expected to have basic knowledge of biology and statistics.

Teaching Methods


The course consists of 2-hour lectures scheduled according to the academic calendar. Lessons include a strong interactive component between the instructor and students. Attendance is mandatory.

Assessment Methods


Oral Examination:The student is expected to demonstrate adequate preparation by clearly and coherently discussing the topics requested by the examiner. The final grade will be expressed on a scale of thirty (30/30), in accordance with the Italian university grading system.

Contents


The course aims to provide basic knowledge of epidemiology and prevention, and to address aspects of food hygiene most closely related to dietetics.
