Syllabus

Course Objectives


The course aims to provide students with the basic theoretical and practical tools to plan, design and develop a research project in the field of Occupational Therapy. Particular emphasis will be posed on modes of communication - traditional and innovative - of the obtained results.

Course Prerequisites


Practical internship experience in the field of Occupational Therapy.

Teaching Methods


The course consists of 10 hours of frontal teaching, divided into 5 lessons of 2 hours. The lectures take advantage of the support of slides and concern theoretical aspects of the discipline integrated by practical examples of the main study paradigms.

Assessment Methods


The learning assessment consists of the development of a research project proposal based on the information provided during the course. The written project (max 2 pages) will be presented and discussed by the students during the exam session. The ability to organize and communicate clearly, effectively, and critically the knowledge gained using appropriate scientific language will also be assessed. Results are based on a 30-point scale.

Contents


The course will cover the main methodological approaches to conducting a research project in the field of Occupational Therapy. In particular, the differences between qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods will be discussed with discussion and evaluation of case studies. How basic and clinical research is conducted from review of the literature, formulation of the experimental question, study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and communication of results will be addressed. Issues concerning ethical aspects in research will also be discussed.
